A Letter from Our Founders
Dear Elsewhere family,
When Lonely Planet acquired Elsewhere in 2023 (when we were only one year old!), we began a new chapter, a new journey. Over the last two years, we’ve grown from 50 destinations to 80, expanded our team and network significantly, and created 2,300 bespoke itineraries. And today, we’re changing our name.
Welcome to Lonely Planet Journeys.
What’s changing? Not much—other than our branding, the rest of the “artist formerly known as Elsewhere” experience will remain the same. Our commitment to serving our travelers, to connecting them to the places they visit in deep and authentic ways, to providing them with once-in-a lifetime experiences: these remain our values.
Lonely Planet Journeys marks a new era, expanding Lonely Planet beyond world-class travel advice, storytelling and guidance. The resources and expertise that Lonely Planet has developed over decades will now infuse our trip-planning services: tailoring itineraries to your tastes and desires, saving you time and money and giving you peace of mind. Like you, we wander this world with curiosity and respect. We are committed to supporting community businesses, protecting the environment and respecting local cultures. We want to continue to show you the road less traveled by connecting you with local experts who will be with you every step of the way.
We reiterate our promise to continue humanizing the travel experience in a way that no algorithm can replicate. With firsthand knowledge and hard-won expertise. With meaning and care and connection.
As always, you can expect new ways to bring your dream trips to life, including our collection of pre-arranged itineraries in the destinations you most want to visit. Here are a few we’re excited about:
-
Uncovering the Secrets of Colombia’s Amazon, Medellín, and Cartagena
-
Traditions of Antiquity and Relics of Religion in Türkiye's Easternmost Corners
-
The Best of Vibrant Vietnam: City, Coastal, and Countryside Traditions
-
Adventurous South Africa: Timbavati Wildlife and Cape Town Culture
We’re still the same crew of travel aficionados and experts. The only thing that’s changed is our name.
Thank you, as always, for trusting us with your travels.
Sincerely,
Alexis, founder of Lonely Planet Journeys
